Chinese Dance

Co-sponsored by the University of Minnesota Confucius Institute, CAAM CDT operates two highly regarded and popular summer camps. We are fortunate to feature professionally trained and exceptionally talented members of the Chinese community who want to share Chinese culture and the arts with the campers. In addition to exploring Chinese dance, campers are introduced to various aspects of Chinese art and culture, with new programming each year. Past years have included ink painting, calligraphy, poetry, paper cutting, and paper folding. Camp highlights include several field trips that incorporate the camp’s themes, including trips to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and meeting with Chinese elders. We emphasize community-building in which campers interview Chinese elders on multiple topics. Campers also typically put on at least one performance for the elders each session. Campers range in ages 5 to 16, with mentoring opportunities for older campers. No prior dance experience is necessary. CAAM CDT offers optional Chinese Language Immersion activities, but one does not need to speak Chinese to attend the camp. Half-day, full-day, and extended-day options are also available. In many cases CDT can offer teacher:camper ratios of 1:8 or even smaller.
